M&S dropped a budget version of Margot Robbie's heatwave co-ord as she stepped out in Paris - I bought it, and can confirm it's incredibly chic

While most of us see a weather forecast over 35-degrees and immediately reach for whatever in our wardrobes most closely resembles a muu-muu, life is different for Margot Robbie.

Stepping out in Paris recently, the actress served up the ultimate masterclass in summer dressing, wearing a breezy, lingerie-inspired silk set by Dôen. Featuring a cami with delicate scalloped lace trim and a matching lace-hemmed mini skirt, the look was effortless, romantic, and (at around £640 total) decidedly high-end.

Luckily for those wanting to channel Parisian chic without paying designer prices, Marks & Spencer has answered our sartorial prayers.

M&S recently dropped its own take on the trend with a satin lace top (£35) and matching asymmetric slip skirt (£40).

And while I don’t have a huge amount in common with Robbie, I can say this is one look we're both buying into – as soon as it hit the M&S website, I snapped up the lace top to take on my holiday to Greece, where it also served me well in boiling hot temperatures.

Lingerie-as-outerwear can feel daunting to pull off (at first my husband was quite shocked to learn my new purchase was considered ‘daywear’). However, M&S has nailed the balance between boudoir styling and everyday clothing here. Cut from a soft, lustrous satin, the top features intricate eyelash lace along the neckline that captures the effortless vintage charm Margot nailed in Paris (albeit at a much more palatable price).

What impressed me most about this top is the quality. Satin on the high street can sometimes lean stiff or synthetic, but this piece drapes beautifully and feels far more expensive than its price tag suggests. The fit skims the body without clinging (an absolute essential when temperatures soar). The detailing feels high-end too.

Robbie grounded her Dôen co-ord with stark black accessories - a classic nod to French contrast - pairing hers with black leather ballet flats, a Chanel tote, and dark cat-eye sunglasses. Until I get my own Chanel, I’ve mainly just been styling mine with simple shorts and sandals – although if you want to push it one step further the matching satin skirt would make a sublime holiday evening look.

Whether worn as a full co-ord or styled as standalone pieces, these lingerie-inspired designs bring a certain je ne sais quoi to a warm-weather wardrobe. I predict another M&S sell-out.
