In his bombshell memoir Spare, Prince Harry claimed his father said Meghan Markle could continue her life on screen rather than become a working royal after their wedding.
But while the Duke and Duchess declined King Charles's suggestion, Sophie Winkleman has proved that it's perfectly possible to pursue a successful acting career while wedded to a member of the Royal Family.
Those less acquainted with the royals might know her better as Big Suze in Channel 4's Peep Show, or as Zoey in Two And A Half Men - but alongside her glittering on-screen career, she has long been an asset to the Firm.
The actress, 45, has maintained her understated nature since marrying her prince charming, Lord Frederick Windsor, 47, the eldest child of the Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, in a glittering ceremony at Hampton Court Palace in 2009.
And so much she has achieved during that time: Alongside starring in hit shows, she serves as a patron for charity School-Home Support to amplify the voices of disadvantaged families grappling with homeschooling hurdles and has stood in the cold selling copies of The Big Issue to call for action on homelessness, to name a few.
It's a presence so impactful yet decidedly low-key that royal biographer and historian Richard Fitzwilliams believes the mother-of-two, who will mark her 46th birthday next week, should serve as the 'template' for future generations of royals.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Fitzwilliams said: 'Sophie Winkelman, married to Lord Frederick Windsor, son of Prince Michael of Kent, has it all when she turns 46 on 5 August and knows it.
'She is big on stage, screen and television so, along with being a member of the extended Royal Family, is a fascinating template for its future members.

'She does charity work, speaks her mind on issues such as smartphones and also has the ability to give an interview and sound both posh and trendy.
'It is clear that Sophie, who comes from an artistic family and is half-sister to the television presenter Claudia Winkelman, combines a highly successful career with motherhood so well.'
In 2023, Sophie revealed that she turned down lucrative television parts in the United States to stay close to her daughters, Maud, 12, and Isabella, 10.
The couple had lived and worked in California, where Winkleman landed a recurring role in the hit sitcom Two And A Half Men, starring Charlie Sheen, for five years until 2015.
'After Two And A Half Men, I got some wonderful offers of work in America which I didn't do because I couldn't imagine just vanishing to another country for months,' Sophie said previously.
'You have to make compromises in your career when you have a family. So I do jobs in Britain where I see them every week.'
Winkleman's roles include playing Lady Worcester in period drama Sanditon, and Zoey, the girlfriend of Ashton Kutcher's character in Two And A Half Men. She also penned screenplays for Salma Hayek and Penélope Cruz.
Her husband, meanwhile, whose father is a first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth, works for JP Morgan, the American financial services firm.

While living in the United States, the couple welcomed their first child, daughter Maud Elizabeth Daphne Marina, who was born at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Centre in August 2013.
They welcomed their second daughter, Isabella Alexandra May Windsor, back in the UK. She was born at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London.
Fitzwilliams continued: 'She has battled both an illness such as pleurisy, in her case for two years, and the effects of a dreadful car crash.'
Sophie was seriously injured in a head-on car crash while being driven home from a film set in 2017.
The then-37-year-old, who faced a gruelling period of recuperation, was sitting in the back seat of the chauffeur-driven car when the accident happened. It took place when another vehicle swerved to avoid a deer in the road and ploughed into her car - injuring her and both drivers.
Despite the severity of the accident, Sophie has continued to shine on the public stage in the years since the crash.
Fitzwilliams continued: 'She appears at royal gatherings such as Royal Ascot in the Carriage procession and Trooping the Colour, though no longer from the balcony.
'Sophie radiates individuality and practices what she preaches when it comes to social media, though the Royal Family relies on this a good deal.

'She is someone who is idiosyncratic and self-deprecating but with a substantial career and success in bringing up two girls, even if one defies her and uses social media.
'She is down-to-earth and involved in charities for vulnerable children, medical care and homelessness.
'So no one could accuse her of being out of touch or entitled, as they do to several royals.
'She has a personality that is distinctive but also has a keen sense of fun. She is also in a happy marriage with Lord Frederick, who is 54th in line to the throne. They make a very happy couple.'
Sophie has continued to pursue philanthropic pursuits in recent times, including supporting social media education, much like the Princess of Wales.
In 2021, Sophie highlighted the struggles of disadvantaged families grappling with homeschooling during the pandemic and appeared on Lorraine to raise awareness of charity School-Home Support.
She insisted that 'all babies are born the same', and that while she accepts 'injustice is part of life', she believes we must stand up for deprived children across the country.
Sophie continued her charitable pursuits last year, speaking of the 'indignity' of homelessness and called for urgent action to support those living on the streets.
The actress headed out in the freezing winter temperatures alongside her then-nine-year-old daughter Isabella to sell The Big Issue at Somerset House in London.
Sophie and Isabella spent time with The Big Issue seller Kelvin Gregory, whom Sophie described as a 'dynamic, funny, worldly man', from whom she has a lot to learn because she failed to sell a copy of the magazine.
'No one bought from me this time,' she said. 'I need to channel Kelvin's zen tolerance; apparently, I looked instantly furious when people walked past me. Not the way to be. A lovely lady bought one from Isabella, thank goodness. That was a relief.'
Reflecting on why the cause means so much to her, Sophie praised The Big Issue for offering both employment and a sense of community to those experiencing homelessness.
Speaking to Hello!, she said: 'How the hell is it OK to walk past someone sleeping in the street? No one should have to endure that pain and indignity – and The Big Issue is a family and a community for people who've fallen on seriously hard times.'
The Peep Show star has been an ambassador for The Big Issue since 2020, after reaching out to co-founder Lord John Bird to commend an article he had written.
Just before Sophie and Frederick - who first met in Soho on New Year's Eve - celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary last year, Sophie told Tatler she 'didn't know anyone' at her own wedding.
'I had my best pals there, but basically it was full of faces I'd never seen before. My mother-in-law, Princess Michael of Kent, took full personal charge of it all and did it brilliantly, including what dress I was wearing,' she recalled.
However, Sophie said she was 'so determined not to be a bridezilla' that she didn't even make a fuss about her hairstyle on the big day - which turned out to be a 'disgusting' mistake.
She told the magazine: 'Coming up the aisle, the first thing I said when I saw Freddie was, "I'm so sorry about the hair." He said, "Yes, what on earth have you done?"'
Their wedding party was hosted by Lord Frederick's godmother, Lady Annabel Goldsmith, at her palatial home, Ormeley Lodge near Richmond Park.
She previously detailed her experience moving into the Royal Family, telling The Times in 2020: 'I've been incredibly welcomed with open arms by all of them.
'I haven't had a single negative experience. The Queen's been wonderful, Prince Charles has been wonderful, Prince William's been heaven.
'They'd never tell me off at all if I wanted to play some role. Everyone's looked after me.'
