Christchurch mum woken by stranger in child's bedroom

Police arrested a stranger who was found inside a child's bedroom in a Christchurch house in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Officers were called to the property in Wigram after the people who lived at the house discovered the intruder.

In a post on social media, the mother said she was woken in the night by a strange man in her two-year-old's bedroom.

"Im thankful my partner dragged him out to the hallway and got him down on the ground so I could grab my son and call the police," she said.

"I never thought something like this would happen to us so it has been a very scary traumatic lesson and I am now absolutely petrified to be in my home."

The mother said she was investing in alarms and cameras as a result of the break in.

Police said the man received medical attention and no charges had been laid.

St John said a person was taken to Christchurch Hospital in a moderate condition.

Police are investigating.
