For a few terrifying seconds, it looked as though a biker would disappear over the edge of a mountain road in Darjeeling. But a last-gasp manoeuvre saved him from what could have been a fatal fall, leaving viewers stunned.

The incident took place in Kurseong, where two motorcyclists were riding through winding roads amid rainy weather. The clip, shared on Instagram by a rider identified as Arsu, has left social media users both relieved and shaken.

"Safe drive, safe life," Arsu wrote while posting the video.

The footage begins with Arsu recording the scenic route ahead as he follows a fellow rider along the narrow hillside road. The rain had left the surface wet and slippery, making every bend particularly challenging to navigate.

For the first few moments, both riders appear to be handling the route with caution. But as one biker approaches a curve, his motorcycle suddenly loses grip on the slick road.

In an instant, the bike skids sideways and begins sliding dangerously towards the edge of the mountain road, where a steep drop lies just beyond the roadside.

What follows is a heart-stopping few seconds.

Reacting almost instinctively, the biker manages to regain just enough control to steer the motorcycle away from the cliff at the very last moment. The bike comes to a halt on safer ground, narrowly avoiding what could have been a devastating fall right after he loses his shoe.

Visibly shaken by the near miss, the man immediately gets off his motorcycle and sits down by the roadside, taking a few moments to recover from the shock. Arsu, who had been riding behind him, quickly rushes over to check on him and offer help.

The video has since drawn widespread attention online, with many viewers expressing relief that the rider escaped without serious injuries. Others said the clip served as a stark reminder of how quickly conditions can change on mountain roads, especially during the monsoon.

Several users urged riders to reduce speed, maintain a safe distance and remain extra vigilant while navigating hilly terrain in wet weather. Rain can significantly reduce tyre grip, making sharp bends and steep descents especially hazardous.

The viral clip is a timely reminder that even experienced riders can be caught off guard, and that caution is often the most important safety gear on mountain roads.
