CALASIAO, Pangasinan – Maritime law enforcers on Monday arrested a 45-year-old La Union fisherman for setting off to fish in municipal waters without a license.

A police report said the fisherman was apprehended off the waters of Sto. Tomas town by personnel of the Sto. Tomas Municipal Police Station and the Damortis Maritime Law Enforcement Team (MLET), during a seaborne patrol.

The man is facing charges for allegedly violating Chapter XV, Section 72 of Municipal Fishery Ordinance No. 2, Series of 2003, which prohibits unlicensed fishing within Sto. Tomas jurisdiction.

Authorities confiscated from the fisherman a motorized banca named “Heart of Mary” valued at P55,000, a set of fishing nets worth P10,000, and about two kilograms of assorted fish estimated at P350.

The suspect and the seized items were brought to the Damortis MLET Office for proper documentation and disposition./coa
