To this day, it remains the stuff of legend. In 2022, Walt Disney opened a fully immersive Star Wars hotel. Only it wasn’t just a hotel. It was a two-day movie you played a role in. From its very first announcement all the way until its final days, the place known as Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser was a lightning rod for questions and controversy. Some were shocked by the exorbitant costs. Others were wowed by its attention to detail. And many were just really, really confused about the whole thing. Eventually, its sudden closing left more questions than answers.
And while even more people heard about Starcruiser thanks to YouTuber Jenny Nicholson’s epic 4-hour recap, filmmaker Carrie Coaplen had her own story to tell. A story of a place where strangers became friends and Star Wars united them all.
That story is being told in a documentary called Halcyon Daze: The Final Voyages of Disney’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, and while it’s already played a few film festivals and won a few awards, it’s about to kick off a series of summer screenings at the granddaddy of all pop culture events: San Diego Comic-Con 2026. Here’s a trailer:
The film screens as part of the Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival at 9:30 p.m. PST, Thursday, July 23, in Grand 6 at the Marriott Marquis San Diego. Then, it’ll screen at Gen Con in Indianapolis on Saturday, August 1, at 3:30 p.m. EST in Capital Ballroom III at the Westin Indianapolis. Finally, it’ll be at the Flyover Film Festival in Louisville, KY, on August 1 at 5:00 p.m. EST in the Kentucky Science Center.
“At its core, Halcyon Daze has always been about the people who made the experience possible and the community that found connection and meaning on the Starcruiser,â Coaplen, who also stars in the film, said in a press release. âItâs a thrill to bring the film to events like Comic-Con that are really about connecting fans with things they love.â
