Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Tuesday claimed that its Aerospace Force had targeted and destroyed Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) central data infrastructure in Bahrain using several cruise missiles. This is the second time this year that Iran has claimed to have struck Amazon-linked infrastructure in the Gulf.

The claim has not been independently verified, and neither Amazon, Bahraini authorities nor US officials had issued an official statement at the time of writing.

According to reports, including those by Al Jazeera and Iran's official IRGC news outlet Sepah News, the strike was carried out as part of the 24th phase of the military campaign dubbed Operation Nasr 2. In its official statement, the IRGC claimed that, alongside Amazon's data infrastructure, US air defense systems and radar installations in the Bahraini areas of Muharraq and Riffa were also targeted with several cruise missiles.

In its statement, the IRGC said the Bahrain strike was retaliation for what it described as "yesterday's US military aggression" against the under-construction civilian facilities in Darkhovin, Iran. Iranian state-linked reports carried by WANA said the announcement was made in Statement No. 39, adding that several cruise missiles had been launched at Amazon's data infrastructure and that more details about the operation would be released later.

The latest claim comes months after Iran previously said it had struck an Amazon-linked facility in Bahrain during an earlier phase of its conflict with the US, making this the second time Tehran has claimed to have targeted the US tech giant's infrastructure in the Gulf.

While Tehran claims had targeted Amazon infrastructure in Bahrain as well as a US military base, Bahrain's military said it had intercepted and destroyed a number of incoming projectiles. Bahraini authorities did not confirm any strike on an Amazon facility, and there was no official confirmation of any damage, reports Al Jazeera.

The reported attack comes as the conflict between Iran and the United States entered its tenth straight day despite diplomatic efforts to ease tensions. As the US stepped up strikes on Iranian military and strategic sites, Tehran warned it could target facilities in neighbouring countries used by American forces.
