MANILA, Philippines – The fourth week of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial will begin on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to give way to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address (Sona), and the Senate minority bloc’s Kontra-Sona.

Senate impeachment court presiding officer Francis “Chiz” Escudero announced on Tuesday at the end of the eighth day of Duterte’s impeachment trial.

Coinciding with the opening of the Congress’ second regular session, the SONA is scheduled on July 27, followed by the Kontra-Sona tradition on July 28.

Marcos is expected to recap the government’s achievements since the last Sona in 2025. On the other hand, the Kontra-Sona will give the Congress’ minority a chance to oppose Marcos’ pronouncements.

Escudero also announced that starting August, the impeachment trial will be held from Monday to Wednesday, but starting at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in lieu of the plenary sessions scheduled on the same days from 4 p.m. onwards. /mr
