The red howler monkey in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is key to better hunting, sneaking, and fighting. Not that the monkeys will teach you anything, but you can use their pelts to craft the "Dart Pouch II" upgrade, allowing you to carry 11 darts in total. Trading red howler monkey skins at the stores can also yield special vanity items such as the Pallas Athena figurehead.

While regular howler monkeys are quite common, red howler monkeys are only found in one location: On Isla Providencia, the south side of the map, at coordinates (480, 16). Isla Providencia is unlocked during the "Marooned" main quest, so if you don't see this island on your map, you simply need to progress the main story.

The red howler monkey's habitat is close to the western viewpoint on the island, where you may have discovered a Mayan stone location. From there, take the path east and go right at the first opportunity. Behind the fallen rectangular pillar, you'll find two red howler monkeys sitting in the trees. The first is right above the small, shallow pond, and the second is a bit further ahead, behind the large stone wall. Use eagle vision to see them more clearly.

Although you could use a pistol, shooting one monkey will scare away the other, so it's better to use sleep darts. Interact with the monkey's body to obtain one bone and one red howler monkey skin. To collect more red howler monkey drops, you can wear the Exotic Sea Shells trinket to obtain double the rewards, or skip time and travel to another region to respawn the monkeys.
