As protests against the police action during a sit-in by the Congress in New Delhi gained strength across the State, the Congress took out a march to Lok Bhavan in the State capital on Tuesday night.

The march that began from the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) headquarters was led by KPCC president and Minister for Electricity Sunny Joseph.

Minister for Excise M. Liju, Minister for Women and Child Development Bindhu Krishna, Minister for Development of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes K.A. Thulasi, Minister for Sports O.J. Janeesh, MLAs M. Vincent and Chandy Oommen, KPCC former president M.M. Hassan, Congress leaders V.S. Sivakumar and Neyyattinkara Sanal, K.S. Sabarinadhan, Kerala Students Union State president Aloshious Xavier and scores of Congress workers, carrying flags and shouting slogans, also took part in the march.

The Congress leaders said this was just the start of agitations against the police action in New Delhi. They expressed support with the Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and K.C. Venugopal, who had been detained in the national capital.

The march was blocked by the police using barricades at Vellayambalam. The protesters tried to climb the barricade and get across to the other side. They also tried to bring down the barricades.

The police bid to round up some protesters led to heated exchanges. The protesters shouted slogans against the police and in support of the Youth Congress. Senior Congress leaders could be seen trying to pacify the protesters.
