The Ministry of Defense has developed a new class of guided munitions called Firefly, which has passed testing and is ready for mass production.

According to Ukrinform, the Ministry of Defense has announced this.

Firefly operates effectively at altitudes of up to 800 meters. After launch, the munition autonomously calculates its flight path and adjusts it toward the target, maintaining accuracy even amid enemy electronic warfare (EW) interference. This allows it to strike fortifications, bunkers, and other protected enemy positions from a safe distance for the carrier.

The developers tested Firefly on Ukraine’s main bomber drones. The system has proven its effectiveness and is ready for mass production.

The path to mass production is paved by Resolution No. 1310 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated October 13, 2025. The document authorizes the Ministry of Defense to transfer rights to use the technology to private defense companies.

One of the priorities of Ukraine’s defense strategy is technological superiority over the enemy.

In the first half of this year alone, the Ministry of Defense codified and approved 1,184 new models of weapons and military equipment for use by the Defense Forces. Of these, over 90% were manufactured in Ukraine. The arsenal of Ukraine’s defenders was also replenished with over 200 types of ammunition.
