MANILA, Philippines — A majority of Filipinos now have a negative assessment of President Marcos, a little over four years after securing a landslide victory in 2022, a new survey conducted by Pulse Asia showed.

Results of the June 28 to July 3 survey released on Monday showed that only 29 percent approved of the performance of the President, down from 36 percent in March.

His disapproval rating went up from 45 percent to 50 percent, while undecided respondents increased from 18 percent to 21 percent.

Marcos’ trust ratings also plummeted, from 35 percent to 28 percent, while his distrust rating surged from 44 percent to 51 percent. Undecided respondents remained at 21 percent.

Like in previous polls, Marcos’ approval and trust ratings were highest among balance Luzon, which covers his political base in the northern part of the country.

He obtained his highest disapproval and distrust ratings – 79 percent and 77 percent, respectively – among those in Mindanao, considered the bailiwick of his erstwhile political ally Vice President Sara Duterte.

Unlike Marcos, Duterte continued to enjoy majority approval and trust ratings despite her ongoing impeachment trial.

Some 56 percent of the respondents approved of the Vice President’s performance, slightly up from 55 percent in the previous poll.

Her disapproval rating slightly increased, from 27 percent to 29 percent, while undecided respondents dropped from 18 percent to 15 percent.

Duterte’s trust ratings improved from 54 percent to 58 percent, while her distrust rating hardly changed, from 26 percent to 27 percent. The remaining 16 percent were undecided, down from 20 percent in the March survey.

The survey had 2,400 respondents and a margin of error of plus/minus two percent.
